Pictures of the Kids

He hated his breathing treatments, but had no problem wearing the mask when it wasn't attached to the machine! Silly boy.

Airhart Decor

Well, we had a massive leak in our front door that insurance would not cover, so Melvin and Johnny came up here to help Chris fix it. They worked really hard, but were able to save us thousands of dollars by doing it themselves, so we are forever grateful. Ma Ma and Tori rode up with them. It was everyone's first time to meet Baby Kate. Melvin also invited Scott and Melanie Moore from North Point over on Saturday night for dinner. It's was nice to visit with them. It's a really small world though because the are from LA too and through mutual friends, they know Melvin and are actually helping with Principio now and Scott went down there recently to Honduras wtih him.

RSV

My kids have never been sicker. RSV took us down for three weeks. It all started with Hayes. Friday he went to school, but I could tell he was kind of puny. Jessica picked him up from school and brought him home. His teacher said that he was "off" all day. After nap time, he had spiked a fever of 101.5. So I took him to the doctor and he had broncholitis and a double ear infection. The doctor gave him Ora-Pred and Amoxicillin. The Ora-Pred made him INSANE. He felt awful, but to add to it, the medicine made him grow horns and he was extrememly emotional and angry with everyone and everything. That was NOT fun. Chris's family had come into town that same day and Tori was super helpful with him. We had to do breathing treatments every 4 hours. After a few days, Kate began to show symptoms. Both of them were wheezing. We were so worried, Chris slept with Hayes and Kate slept in our room. We took Kate to the doctor next and they told us to start breathing treatments for her too. By the next day or two, she had gotten way worse and was breathing really hard, almost panting and she was retracting. So we called the nurse on call and they sent us to Children's Urgent Care to get her seen. After a breathing treatment, she was improving enough to go home. That was a close call. About 250,000 infants a year are hospitalized for RSV, and being that Kate was only 3 months, it was a concern. This went on for about another week and I finally took her back into the doctor. She was put on Ora-Pred, Amoxicillin and Breathing Treatments. She also developed a pink eye infection from all of this that required drops. The meds helped tremendously and we saw improvement within 24 hours. Then Hayes' ear infection came back too and we had to get him a different antibiotic. Three weeks of sickness, but we are finally on the mend. Needless to say, we have been in and out of that pediatrician's office so many times, they should just rent us a room. You know its bad when one of the nurses says, "I see you guys more than I see my husband." I hope that we don't have to go through this again. Its hard to have one sick kid, but two.....whew. All I can say is Thank you Jesus, I survived. The kids HATE breathing treatments and scream bloody murder. I practically have to wrestle Hayes to the ground to get him to take one. Yuck! Today (3/14/11) we had a follow up appt though and Hayes' ears look good and Kate's breathing sounds great. Breathing treatments for three more days and we are hopefully done. Hallelujah!!!! Thank you Dr. Penny Forman for taking such good care of them.
